Corporate, Commercial and Tax Law Scholarship

Mathew has academic appointments/affiliations with

  • Sydney Law School, The University of Sydney;

  • Accounting, Governance and Regulation, The University of Sydney;

  • Ross Parsons Centre for Commercial, Corporate and Taxation Law.; and

  • The Academy of Excellence in Financial Crime Investigation and Compliance, Griffith University/Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

 

He teaches and researches business law, tax law and white collar crime-related subjects and topics.  He was previously a lecturer at the University of Wollongong where he taught tax, contracts, and criminal law subjects.

 

Mathew was awarded his PhD in taxation law in 2018 by the School of Tax and Business Law, University of New South Wales (UNSW) (incorporating Atax).  His supervisors were Professor Michael Walpole and Adjunct Professor Robyn Woellner.  The title of his thesis was, ‘Tax Crime: A critical analysis of the anomalies and unfairness caused by the intersection of tax and criminal law’.  The quality and impact of Mathew’s work during his PhD is reflected in the resulting publications in leading scholarly and professional journals.  His research has also been directly incorporated into court submissions and advice.  Mathew is also a career mentor for the UNSW Business School.
